Tigress Coaching Case Studies

When I first met Audrey in April 2004, I knew that she could help me grow in my business.  I didnít quite understand exactly how other than I knew that I would have someone in my corner supporting me, offering suggestions, and holding me accountable to the goals that I set for myself.  But in working with Audrey, I received so much more than I expected and sometimes didnít even realize until months or even years later.

At the time we started to work together, I had been a licensed massage therapist for one year, and I had decided to go into private practice just six months after I got my license.  Even though I knew it was the right decision, I was also a bit fearful.  Okay, terrified at times. There was so much I wanted to do, yet so much I didnít know. I knew that I was good at what I did, and I loved doing it, but was I good enough to build a client base and keep them?

These were all the personal issues I had with my own work. I also had issues with marketing and promoting myself.  What did I have to offer? Am I being pushy if I talk about what I do?  How do I talk about what I do in a way that is authentic and creates interest and value to the listener?  Who is the listener?  So many questions, too many answers.

Audrey got me to focus, (and focus, and focus!) which helped me to zero in on whatís most important and to let go of things that didnít matter.  Her business and marketing advice provided me with a solid foundation that I use to this dayÖknow your target market, be consistent in your marketing and networking efforts, build relationships, ask for the next appointment and/or referral, business analysis and planning, affirmations and most important, take care of yourself and enjoy it!

Even after our official coaching sessions were completed, she later gave me a little gem of advice that has helped me stay on the right path for me and for my clients.  She reminded me to be true to my authentic self in my profession, not to a way I think I should be. Even though that advice sounds like simple common sense, it was something I needed to hear and it set me free to grow a very successful practice.

In the two years since we first started working together, using many of the ideas and principles Audrey suggests, I have grown my practice from seeing about six clients a week, on average, to seeing 15-18 clients every week, with the majority of them being regular clients that purchase packages of five massages at a time.

My income in 2005 grew by 15% over 2004, my first year in private practice.  However, my income for the first half of 2006 has almost surpassed 2004's annual income and I'm on my way to increasing my 2006 income 100% over 2005's annual income. This all happened by really understanding the type of client I'm looking for, stating that clearly at all the networking meetings I attend and then following through with effective and consistent service.

I believe that passive/residual income is important and it is something that I would like to develop in the future. This strong understanding is based mostly on what Audrey taught me.  However, right now I prefer to focus my energy and attention on what I moved here for, which is massage and Bernie's musical career.  Between those two high priority items, along with keeping my body/mind/spirit healthy and just living an enjoyable life, I don't have much room at this time for anything else.  Both of our careers are in major growth phases, and that's where we both are staying focused.  It's fun and fulfilling to see our dreams come to fruition.  I do have ideas on ways to grow passive income in the future, which I am studying and learning about before I invest actual money.

That is because another priority of mine is reducing debt.  Since I financed my own business growth, I managed to incur a good bit of debt.   In the beginning, going into debt was a big source of stress for me because I was debt free when we moved to California.  However, I've changed my attitude towards my debt and I'm grateful that I had the credit available to use so that I could stay in business during some of the leaner months.  I'm now supporting myself completely on what I earn without the use of any credit, and I have a debt reduction plan in place, with a goal to be credit card debt-free in 4 years.

I've spoken with a few well respected mortgage loan professionals that have helped me see the possibilities of buying some property in the future (hopefully in 2008), plus I took Chellie Campbell's Financial Stress Reduction course which has been very powerful in changing my views about money, debt, time-management and self worth.

I also realized this spring that I needed help with my marketing output and have hired a marketing consultant and graphic artist.  Because I was clear on my target market and business objectives (thanks again to Audrey) this has been a very good investment indeed.  I believe in paying for good services and I'm so thankful for the ability to pay.  In working with this consultant, I have raised my rates this month, which is the first time since I've been in private practice.   Plus I've restructured my pricing for other services that I offer.  Most of my clients are completely understanding and feel the increase is warranted and fair.  A couple of my long time clients even asked me when I was going to increase prices months before I did it!

I also have plenty of time off to rest, take care of myself, spend time with my partner and simply enjoy life.   But the best part is that Iím enjoying my work. Iím doing something that I love, my clients know that I do and they feel it in their massages.  And that makes everyone happy!

My coaching with you was the best money I ever spent!  Any woman entrepreneur who really wants to get on the road to success should speak to you.

One of the most useful things I learned from your coaching was to finally understand the concept of 'target marketing' and that all my marketing strategies should be aimed toward the people I want as clients. And that I cannot be, and should not try to be, all things to all people.

My revenues increased (and my expenses decreased) as a result of your coaching by about 50% over the previous year. A large part of this was due to my 'fine tuning' my marketing and advertising.

Instead of 'throwing mud against the wall and hoping it would stick' I learned what it was I wanted to be selling and how to market to that end. This, in turn, enabled me to pinpoint my target market.

But the most useful thing I learned was to do a monthly ROI Ė Return On Investment analysis: What is working? What is not working? Should I try this? Should I place that on the backburner for now?  Doing this has been invaluable to my business.

I do the ROI at the end of every month and I already see how this has saved me money for 2006 on advertising and marketing that was not working and, (this is the best part), by stopping what was not working, I was able to concentrate on what was working.
